I offer it as an invitation to study and reflection.

Three axes of my exploration

My starting points are the Decalogue, the Hermetic principles and what contemporary spiritual texts call the Belagine or Beautiful Laws. These form the article’s personal framework; establishing a tradition’s history is a different task from exploring its spiritual use.

A wider map

The longer material includes Tri Hita Karana, Noahide laws, Hammurabi, Manu, Dharma, Torah, Islamic practices, the Eightfold Path, Ma’at, Confucianism, the Golden Rule, Ahimsa, Karma and the Four Agreements. It continues through Stoicism, Bushido, Shinto and Inca, Mapuche and Aymara perspectives. Laws, religious practices and philosophical ideals serve different purposes; the list brings them together for exploration.

Questions to bring into life

Which principle helps me choose when things are difficult? What does respect look like in a conversation or project? Where do freedom and responsibility meet? I encourage you to explore what draws you, using the relevant tradition’s sources and keeping discernment. At work, the value of a code also appears in consistent action.

A map of reference points, not a new religion

I gathered these codes to explore the relationship between freedom, conduct and responsibility. In my perspective, human law, relationship with the Divine and respect for nature belong in the same conversation. The traditions below are not interchangeable, and one table cannot replace them.

The Decalogue, Hermetic principles and Belagine Laws appear as three axes in my reflections. For each, distinguish documented origins from contemporary spiritual interpretation. The Belagine material needs particular attention to sources and historical attribution.

Biblical and Islamic traditions

The research includes the Decalogue and Mosaic Law, the seven Noahide laws and Maimonides’ thirteen principles. They do not all serve the same purpose: commandments, ethical reference points and statements of faith belong in their own contexts.

For Islam, the five pillars and Sharia are discussed. Religious practice and legal thought cannot be reduced to a list of virtues; the library presentation is a beginning for further study rather than an exhaustive account.

Dharma, suffering and nonviolence

The material explores Dharma, the Laws of Manu, karma and ahimsa alongside the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. Useful questions include how a tradition understands suffering, responsibility for action and practice.

Texts about duty, social order and inner freedom can contain tensions. Studying them does not require endorsing every historical rule. Comparison becomes clearer when we recognise limitations and differences between interpretations.

Harmony, community and place

Ma’at, Confucian ethics, Bushido and Shinto principles appear alongside Bali’s Tri Hita Karana. The research also discusses Inca principles, Admapu and Suma Qamaña, connecting community life with place and nature.

Other reference points include the Golden Rule, Stoic virtues, the Nine Noble Virtues and the Four Agreements. Some have contemporary formulations; inspiration from a tradition does not automatically make a text ancient.

Putting the reading to use

Choose one reference point you understand and consider an actual situation: did I speak truthfully, keep a promise and consider another person’s interests? A concrete question can be more valuable than memorising many principles.

In business, I am interested in how a code becomes behaviour: explainable decisions, fair relationships and responsibility for consequences. The complete list, individual descriptions and original materials remain in MediaWiki.

Longer material and sources: Coduri Etice și Morale

Category: Ethics and community

Continue exploring

The seven Hermetic principles in life and business

Spiritual politics — leadership as service

Collective consciousness — intention, observation and action

Which question will you take with you?

Choose an idea from this material and connect it with a specific situation in your life.
